Are you looking for a flexible and stylish lighting option for your current home? A plug in swag chandelier may be just what you need! But what exactly is a swag chandelier, and where can you hang it?

What is a swag chandelier?

A swag chandelier is a lighting fixture suspended from the ceiling using a chain, cord, or rope. The term “swag’ comes from draping or “swagging” the chain or cord across the ceiling, creating an elegant look. Most of these fixtures have adjustable chains or cords so you can install the chandelier in different lengths.

Often used when hardwiring is not possible, these ceiling lights offer lighting flexibility compared to other ceiling fixtures. They come in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials, and can be an ideal choice to add a touch of elegance and drama to any room.

Where do you hang a PLUG IN swag chandelier?

You can install a plug in swag chandelier in any room where there is no hardware option – meaning there is no junction box or electrical box in the ceiling.

Some of the best places for a plug in swag chandelier are the dining room for lighting over the dining table, the living room, or the bedroom. You can even place it in the laundry room. You can also have one over the kitchen table. However, it’s best to avoid installing one in the bathroom or an area of the kitchen near water – just to be safe, you don’t want a plug-in close to water.

How do I hang a PLUG IN swag chandelier?

There’s a way that you can reposition your light fixture by swagging it to the right location. Before starting though, there are some essential tools and materials that you will need for the installation.

If you have a ceiling fixture that hangs from a chain, you’ll need a swag kit that contains a hook, a toggle bolt, and extra chain links (optional). If your light fixture hangs from a cord and not a chain, you’ll need swag light mounts (below on right and above). Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds, maybe thousands of chandeliers and in my experience, this little apparatus is a great invention.

I promise that it’s super easy. If it’ll make you feel more comfortable, you can always ask someone to help you out – two heads are better than one! 🙂

Can you hang a chandelier without wiring?

Yes, it’s possible to hang a chandelier without lighting. However, in this case, you will be using the fixture purely for aesthetic purposes. You’ll not be able to use it as a source of electrical overhead lighting.

To fully appreciate the beauty of a chandelier, including its ability to light up a space, it’ll require some form of wiring or electrical connection. You can have the more traditional option of hardwiring it to the ceiling or use a plug-in chandelier if you don’t have a junction box.

It is important to note that, regardless of the method used to hang a chandelier, it is essential to ensure that the fixture is securely anchored and able to support its weight to prevent accidents or damage.

Can you hang a chandelier with a hook?

Yes, you can use a hook to hang a chandelier. It’s one of the most common hardware tools that can be used for plug-in chandeliers. When using a ceiling hook to hang a chandelier, it’s best to look for a location that can be a strong enough anchor point for your fixture. This can be a ceiling joist or a support beam.

What is a swag hook?

Typically made out of metal, swag hooks are a type of hardware used for hanging ceiling fixtures like chandeliers. The term “swag” refers to the way the cord or chain drapes vertically, creating an elegant look to the fixture. These hooks come in a variety of sizes and styles to accommodate different weights and types of decorative items. They’re easily found on Amazon or at your local hardware store.

Are plug-in lights safe?

Plug-in lights are generally safe to use as long as you follow the instructions given by the manufacturer and you use the lights properly and with care. It’s also important to inspect the product and its cord for any signs of damage before using it. If any part of the product appears to be damaged, it’s best to have it replaced immediately.

Whether you’re looking to make small changes to upgrade your home, or doing a full-on renovation, swag chandeliers offer lighting flexibility and elegance to any space. If you’re hanging one in your home, I’d love to see it!

Until next time,
Cherie
